We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage, which includes guidance for the learning, development and care of children from birth to five years. Providing high quality opportunities and experiences for your child is a priority and the consistent approach that we will use to ensure that we help your child reach their full potential.
Children in the EYFS learn by playing and exploring, being active, and through creative and critical thinking which takes place both indoors and outdoors. Our objective is that at the end of their time at Little Birds, your child will be ready to progress in a happy, positive and confident way.
The Four Overarching Principles are:
- Every child is a Unique Child who is constantly learning and can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured.
- Children learn to be strong and independent through positive relationships.
- Children learn and develop well in enabling environments in which their experiences respond to their individual needs and there is a strong partnership between practitioners and parents and/or carers.
- Children develop and learn in different ways and at different rates. The framework covers the education and care of all children in early years provision, including children with special educational needs and disabilities.
Within the pre-school, all children are supported in developing their potential at their own pace. We use In The Moment Planning and Birth to 5 Matters to underpin our overarching principles and support Little Birds Curriculum and Pedagogy. Copies of these are displayed and available to read within our Pre-School.
For children between the ages of two and three we must review their progress and provide parents and/or carers with a written summary of their child’s development in the Prime Areas by completing a 2 year check. We share this check with the local Health Visiting team if we feel your child need’s support in any areas. We also use Wellcomm, a communication and language tool to help us identify areas that need support. We really get to know all our Children and families at Little Birds, and we use this professional judgement and knowledge gained from the unique child and their families/carers to scaffold your Child’s next steps in their learning journey.
