We use Tapestry online learning journeys at Little Birds.
We believe that online learning journeys are the way things are heading for many pre-schools and nursery’s and have done extensive research into the best application to use. Before we started with Tapestry we even visited a preschool that had already used tapestry for a few years and they said (parents as well as staff) that it is a great piece of software which allows parents to be more involved in their time at preschool. After using Tapestry our selves for a good few years, we have to agree.
Each child’s Key person or other staff members will make observations of that child and comment on the progress and achievements they are making at pre-school which will then be approved by the Leader before being published in their online learning journey. Please note we do not publish a huge amount as we believe the practitioners time is best spent with your child not on an i-pad. We ensure the practitioners have a sound knowledge of your child, their likes, dislikes, interests, abilities, personality as well as you as a family, special events and times, family interests, hobbies, a really holistic approach to Early Education.
By logging on with a secure username and password parents/carers will be able to view all of their children’s observations, photographs and even video from their time at pre-school. They will even receive an email telling you when a new observation or piece of work is available for the parent/carer to view. This will enable you to follow your child’s individual progress closely and you can reflect upon their achievements with your child. As parents/carers you can add comments and observations so that we as a staff find out about which activities your child really enjoyed and the learning they get up to at home. This can be done on a computer or on an app for your phone or tablet. If you do not have access to e-mail your child is still able to have an online Learning Journey which can accessed through the use of preschool computer equipment during specific dates throughout the year.
All of this information is stored on a highly secure server which is monitored closely.
E-safety is extremely important to us at Little Birds, therefore we ask parents/carers to provide us with your email address to allow us to link you to your child’s learning journey. We are aiming to include all the children in this process, however if any parent/carer is unhappy with this and would not like their child to be included then they should tell a member of staff.
